Calab Gabriel has been practicing as an Advocate and Patent Attorney in India for the past 40 years. He has prosecuted thousands of patent applications in all fields. He has been a Partner in a few leading IP firms in India including Remfry and Sagar, Lall Lahiri & Salhotra and Founder of the Patent team and Head of Patents in K&S Partners for more than 2 decades. Currently, he is the Founder of this firm LEX IP CARE. Calab has been advising the Government of India on various issues relating to Intellectual Property and has extensive experience in all aspects of intellectual property laws with special emphasis on filing, prosecution and enforcement of patents, and designs.
Calab is also involved in all major Patent Litigations in India and has also represented the Government of India in many International negotiations, such as PLT, FAQ, etc. He has spearheaded the revocation of the Turmeric patent and re-examination of Basmati Patent in USPTO on behalf of Government of India. He has authored various articles on topics relating to patenting of pharmaceuticals, life sciences including Biotech inventions in India. He has made many presentations on various topics on Intellectual Property in India and abroad. He has handled the portfolio of several Software companies and Engineering companies for decades. He was represented clients namely Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, Novartis, Eli Lilly, BASF, Akzo Nobel, Saint Gobain, Air Bus, Qualcomm, Honda, Suzuki Motors, etc.
Calab was a member of the Parliamentary Committee that made the draft bill of amendments to the Indian Patents Act for submission before the Indian Parliament. Calab has also been a speaker at conferences such as ITech Law, WIPO, AIPPI, AIPLA, WIPF and GIPC. He is a member in Indo-US Summit.

Dr. CHITRA ARVIND

Dr. Chitra holds M.S. degree in Pharmacy, with specialization in Natural Products from National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER, Chandigarh), and her Doctorate in the field of natural products from the same Institute in 2005. She completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Tamil Nadu in 1999.
Besides being a gold medalist in her undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses, Dr. Chitra holds MBA degree in marketing from IGNOU and Post graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights from National Law School University, India. She is a registered patent agent and an advocate having a wide experience in techno-commercial and techno-legal background. She has several research articles and patents to her credit. She has hands on experience on isolation, characterization and biological testing of natural products with respect to both small molecules and macromolecules; synthesis of chemical compounds and biological assays including screening of compounds in-vitro and in-vivo.
Dr. Chitra began her career as an Assistant Manager at a pharma company in Delhi, managing the product life cycle through project management techniques, coordinating for regulatory approvals and conducting successful business negotiations with clients. Subsequently, she moved to a reputed IP law firm in Delhi where she handled patent filing, prosecution and oppositions.
As a part of the earlier firm, her responsibilities included strategic advice on crafting and developing patent portfolios, providing patentability and freedom to operate opinions, advice on regulatory laws, drafting and filing of patent applications and oppositions in India and abroad as well. Dr. Chitra was part of the team which successfully handled the first Compulsory License granted in India for the drug Sorafenib and has also assisted in several ongoing litigations of pharmaceutical compounds, in the High Court and Supreme Court of Delhi as well as other High Courts across India. She has drafted and filed more than 250 oppositions in Indian patent office and other jurisdictions. She has drafted and filed several hundreds of applications in the national and international forum. She has mentored and trained people for projects in management and intellectual property rights and regularly delivers seminars and lectures in several forums.
Her expertise lies in advising clients, especially in the life science sector, in building, managing and developing their portfolio of intellectual property rights. She has planned and built IP portfolios of several companies and Institutions and is accomplished in conducting “Freedom to Operate” reports and providing techno-legal opinions. She is a visiting professor at several academic institutes and conducts workshops across India.
Founding Partner (B.Tech, MSc., MSc., LL.B)
Maria is a Biotechnologist and a lawyer practicing in the areas of Patent, Trade Mark, Plant Varieties registration and Design Prosecution. She acquired her Bachelor of Technology in Bio-Technology with her project in “Cloning of Human TTR and MC domain of Sup35 protein from yeast in TA vectors”. Thereafter, her Masters in Immunology & Immunogenetics from the University of Manchester where her project was based on the “Investigation of saliva for evidence of reactivation of Herpes Simplex type 1, in young and old HSV1-seropositive subjects”. She has her second Masters degree in Virology from Amity University which she passed with a distinction. Her project was on “Study the Genetic Evolution of Hemagglutinin (HA) of Pandemic Influenza A 2009 (H1N1) Virus”.
She has also attended the Young Women’s Leadership Program in the year 2014. She then further acquired her Law Degree and enrolled in the Bar Council of Delhi. She has also attended a course on IPR at the RGNIIPM, Nagpur with special emphasis on Patent drafting. She was awarded the Amity Alumni Achievers Award in 2017.
Apart from English, Hindi and Tamil, she has also had formal education in Japanese and German languages.
She is a member of international conferences and regularly participates in the events of Asian Patent Attorneys Association, AIPLA, AIPPI and FIPCI.
Apart from IP, Maria also takes an interest in social issues in terms of empowerment of Women and is a member of the Delhi and National YWCA where she has held honorary positions of Board Member, Finance Committee Member, Assistant Treasurer, Chairperson- Personnel Committee and Member of the National Executive Committee.
She handles drafting, filing and prosecution of biotechnology, biomedical devices and biochemical Patent cases of the firm. Her specialization is in Patent prosecution and appearing for discussions with Examiners and official hearings before the Patent Controllers. She also files and prosecutes Trade Mark and Design application. She also undertakes medico-legal queries, drafting of assignments, transfer of IP rights and drafting of IPR policies.
Maria is also involved in marketing, administration, policy making and human resource management of the firm.
is a Patent Agent and a Lawyer practicing in Patent Prosecution and Litigation for the past 30 years. He has prosecuted a few thousand Patent applications in India and abroad. He was also involved in major Patent Litigations in India. At present, he is focusing on Patent Litigation especially writs in the High Courts at Chennai.
Anuradha holds a Master’s Degree in Organic Chemistry and handling Patent prosecution before the Indian Patent Office for past 7 years. She regularly involved in drafting of patent specifications in the areas of Pharma/industrial chemicals. She is also a Patent agent and appears before the Patent Office for discussions with Examiners and official hearings before the Patent Controllers.
Dr. R. SUNDER
Dr. Sunder has worked with Hoechst Pharmaceuticals as a Research Executive for 10 years and at Dabur India Ltd. as Head, Chemical Research Division for 15 years. He have had extensive experience in developing new processes for producing various chemicals and worked in the fields of production of organic acids, synthetic bulk chemicals, phytochemical and have created new Intellectual Property in these areas.
Dr Sunder holds a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from University of Delhi and has a corporate Research experience of 20 years and holds about a dozen patents in India, USA, Europe etc. in his own name. He has also contributed to several National and International publications on natural products and synthetic organic chemistry. Dr. Sunder is a Registered Patent Agent. He is involved in patent drafting and prosecution of chemical patents on behalf of the firm.
is a lawyer with a Bachelor’s in Law from Symbiosis Law School. He has attended summer school at Berlin School of Economics and at North Umbria University, Newcastle, United Kingdom. He has 5 years’ experience in patent filings, assignments, licensing and litigation. He has assisted in Pre and Post Grant oppositions before the Indian patent office.
ARUN RENNI JOHN

Arun has obtained his Bachelor of Science from Delhi University and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Applications from National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology, Delhi. He is involved in drafting and prosecution of Computer related inventions. He is also currently pursuing Law and he maintains and monitors our filing and docketing systems.
